BIOGRAPHY
Painter and musician of German origin living in France.
Ralf Altrieth has been developing a body of work for over thirty years marked by gestural expression and spontaneous pictorial writing. He has exhibited in France and Germany, notably at the Hartmut Beck Gallery (Erlangen), at MAC Paris, and at the Théo de Seine Gallery (Paris). His work is part of an expressionist tradition where line and colour become a form of intuitive writing.
Born in 1966 in Heilbronn, Germany, he took private lessons with the painter Georg Schaible from the age of 14 in Baiersbronn and then attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Nürtingen in the late 1980s.
He began studying the saxophone and jazz at the age of twenty.

He has also created sets, composed stage music, and directed musical theatre pieces. He is a co-founder of the record label meta records.
Ralf Altrieth has worked and lived in Berlin, Freiburg im Breisgau, Erlangen, Paris, Venice, Normandy, and now in the south of France.
